Making New Year’s resolutions is a great way to start off the tennis season on the right foot. Whether your goal is to win more matches, take your game to the next level, or just have more fun on the court, setting specific goals and putting in the work to achieve them can help you make real progress. But as any seasoned tennis player knows, improvement doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and a whole lot of practice.

Fortunately, there are plenty of drills you can do to work on specific skills and get closer to achieving your goals. In this blog post, tennis enthusiast Dr. Samuel Bride will share some of his favorite drills that will help you in improving your forehand, backhand, serve and overall fitness. So grab a racket, and let’s get started!

1. Forehand Drive Drill

This Drill is designed to help you improve the power and accuracy of your forehand drive. Start by hitting some warm-up forehands from the baseline with a medium-paced swing. Subsequently, increase the velocity of your swing while remaining in control of the ball.Hit 10 forehands cross-court followed by 1 tendown-the-line without stopping in between shots. Focus on making solid contact with the ball and keeping it in play. If you hit a ball that goes out, start over from the beginning. Once you’ve completed 20 cross-court forehands and 20 down-the-line forehands without making any mistakes, move on to the next Drill.

2. Backhand Drill

This Drill is designed to help you improve the power and accuracy of your backhand drive. Start by hitting some warm-up backhands from the baseline with a medium-paced swing. Then increase the speed of your swing while keeping control of the ball. It’s time to start the Drill after you get into a groove. Without taking any breaks, hit 10 backhands cross-court followed by 10 down-the-line. Strive to make solid contact with the ball and keeping it in play. If you hit a ball that goes out of bounds, start over from the beginning again. Once you’ve completed 20 cross-court backhands and 20 down=line Backs without making any mistakes, move on to the next Drill.

3. Serve Drill

This Drill is designed to help you improve both accuracy and power on your serve. Start by hitting some warm-up serves into practice baskets or nets. Then increase the speed of your serves while maintaining control over where it goes. After you’re comfortable with the movements, it’s time to start the Drill. In this Drill, you’ll hit ten serves into each basket or net, concentrating on making solid contact with the ball and putting it where you want it to go. If a serve goes out, start again from the beginning. Once you’ve completed ten successful serves into each basket or net, move on to the next exercise.

Conclusion

We hope these drills will help give you a head start on achieving your tennis resolutions! Remember, though, that Rome wasn’t built in a day—so don’t be discouraged if you don’t see results immediately. Just keep practicing consistently and believe that hard work will pay off in due time. And who knows? With enough dedication, maybe this will be the year you will finally achieve that elusive goal!
